Mp Ferdinand Wanyonyi’s Team Launches Bursary Exercise With Enhanced Measures to Benefit Deserving Learners

Officials attached to Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi have rolled out a bursary form collection exercise, targeting learners in senior secondary schools and tertiary institutions from the constituency.

Speaking during the launch, the Kwanza Constituency Manager Joseph Kibii said they have introduced new procedures aimed at sealing loopholes and ensuring bursaries reach genuinely needy students.

“The bursary process has been streamlined to ensure fairness. Every genuine applicant will be verified, and no form will be processed without proper authentication,” Kibii said while speaking at Namanjalala.

According to Kibii, the constituency has introduced serialised bursary forms embedded with scannable codes, a move meant to enhance transparency and curb fraud.

In addition, all approved forms for both tertiary institutions and secondary schools must bear official rubber stamps to be considered valid.

Under the current allocation, secondary school students are eligible for up to Sh5,000, while tertiary institution beneficiaries will receive up to Sh10,000, depending on need and available funds.

The CDF Committee Chairperson, Gregory Mupalia, noted that the vetting process has been fully devolved to the grassroots, with village elders and local chiefs playing a central role in identifying deserving beneficiaries.

“Wananchi themselves will carry out the vetting. This ensures community ownership and prevents misuse of public resources,” Mupalia said.

The constituency has set aside Sh50 million for education-related support, including bursaries, TVET training, and driving school programmes, in line with skills development and youth empowerment goals.

Kwanza Ministry of Education quality assurance officer, Isaac Famba, emphasized that the programme is aligned with the policy on 100 per cent transition, noting that no learner should be locked out of education due to financial constraints.

“Every student must be captured in the education system. The government is committed to ensuring 100 per cent transition from one level to the next becomes a reality,” Mr. Famba said.

They urged parents and guardians to collect bursary forms early, provide accurate information, and support learners to enroll in TVET institutions and vocational programmes, which remain a key pillar of the government’s education agenda.
