National Government Adopts Multisectoral Strategy to Fast-Track Development in Trans Nzoia

The National Government has adopted a multisectoral approach to accelerate the implementation of development projects in Trans Nzoia County by bringing together senior government officials, technocrats and political leaders.

The initiative is being spearheaded by the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Deborah Mulongo, and involves a high-level team from key ministries working closely with local leaders.

Political leaders supporting the initiative include Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Lilian Siyoi, Endebess MP Dr. Robert Pukose, Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau, Senator Allan Chesang, Dr. Chris Wamalwa and Dr. Susan Nakhumicha.

The technical team brings together senior government officials among them Immaculate Shamala, director Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), and Jonas Kuko, a Commissioner at the commission for revenue allocation (CRA), reflecting a coordinated, whole-of-government approach.

As part of the strategy, the team held a high-level meeting with the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Water and Sanitation and the Trans Nzoia Presidential Priority Projects Implementation and Grassroots Taskforce.

The meeting focused on water projects, irrigation schemes and the protection of key water catchment areas across the county.

Discussions underscored the importance of reliable water supply in sustaining livelihoods, particularly agriculture, which remains the backbone of Trans Nzoia’s economy.

:As one of Kenya’s major food-producing counties, Trans Nzoia’s agricultural output depends on effective water management and the conservation of critical catchment areas'” said Dr. Mulongo during a consultative meeting at Kabuyefwe.

Environmental sustainability featured prominently, with stakeholders emphasizing the protection of rivers, wetlands and catchment ecosystems to secure long-term water availability.

Climate resilience, responsible land use and environmental conservation were identified as key pillars in ensuring consistent water supply for domestic and agricultural use.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to equitable development, national unity and job creation under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

A strategic meeting of the Trans Nzoia Presidential Priority Projects Implementation and Grassroots Impact Taskforce reviewed ongoing, stalled and planned projects to ensure alignment with BETA priorities.

The meeting, also attended by Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, focused on setting timelines for near-completion projects, addressing implementation challenges, identifying new BETA-aligned initiatives and strengthening accountability.

To further strengthen the multisectoral approach, CS Mulongo held consultations with Co-operatives and MSMEs Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya to enhance collaboration between ministries.

The discussions reviewed key programmes including the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA), the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation (KJET) initiative, the Coffee Revitalization Through Cooperatives Initiative and the promotion of green jobs.

The leaders agreed to conduct joint sensitization campaigns to ensure Trans Nzoia residents benefit fully from the programmes, while enhancing coordination ahead of the planned Presidential visit.

Officials said the collaborative effort reflects the government’s commitment to improved service delivery, inclusive development and sustainable economic growth in Trans Nzoia through a coordinated government approach.

“This approach is not about politics but a coordinated effort to ensure the government delivers priority projects tailored to the unique needs of each region,” Ms Shamala said.
