Sifuna Gets Western Opposition Backing for Presidential Run as New Party Emerges

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been endorsed by Western Kenya opposition leaders to be the presidential candidate of a soon-to-be-unveiled political party for the 2027 General Election.

The leaders reached the decision during a strategy meeting hosted by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya at his Kitale residence.

The meeting brought together leaders from across Western Kenya, who also settled on Governor Natembeya as the Western Kenya coordinator for the new political outfit and Sifuna.

Natembeya said the team had settled on Sifuna and would roll out a series of activities to popularise the party and its agenda across the region.

“We have agreed that Edwin Sifuna will be the flagbearer of this new movement. On July 25, we will hold a meeting in Kitale, and on July 26, we will be in Bungoma. After that, we will hold grassroots meetings in all 38 constituencies in Western Kenya because we want a new party,” Natembeya said.

He added that the movement would begin public mobilisation in Trans Nzoia before heading to Bungoma for a major homecoming rally, where elders are expected to formally endorse Sifuna’s bid.

Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga said the leaders had unanimously agreed on Sifuna as the candidate to carry the region’s political ambitions into the next election.

“Our candidate is Edwin Sifuna. Governor Natembeya will coordinate Western Kenya campaigns for Sifuna and other aspirants,” Kalasinga said.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi said the leaders were building one political vehicle to unite Western Kenya around a shared political and development agenda.

“We are forming one party. Our intention is to unite Western Kenya under one political vehicle so that the region can speak with one voice and pursue a common agenda,” Osotsi said.

Sifuna welcomed the endorsement and said he was ready for the task ahead of ensuring they defeat President William Ruto.

“I am grateful for your confidence in me and your resolve to unite as a region and give me a base as I engage the rest of the country in building support to form the government in 2027,” Sifuna said.
