Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has pledged Sh70 million to build a modern multi-purpose hall at St Joseph’s Boys National School in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.
Murkomen, an alumnus of St Joseph’s Boys, said he would mobilise funds for the project and ensure construction starts before January 2027.
“The Chief Principal and the Board have told me to take up the responsibility of building a modern multi-purpose hall. So I’m going to look for the money now and ensure that it starts before January,” Murkomen said.
He said the proposed hall is expected to take six to eight months to complete.
“Hopefully in less than six, eight months, we should have a good multipurpose hall in this school. Is there something very difficult for someone who went to St Joseph’s High School?” he posed.
Murkomen also promised to engage the Ministry of Education over other infrastructure needs at the national school, including a modern administration block and a school bus.
“The rest of the issues, better administrative block, your bus, and all the other issues, I’m going to combine them together, talk to the CS of Education, and see how we can work together to support you to get the facilities you want,” he said.
Chief Principal Cosmas Nabungolo said St Joseph’s Boys National School had expanded its technical and skills-based programmes to prepare students for future careers.
“We do aviation here. I introduced aviation, so we are the only school, I think in Rift Valley, that’s taking aviation,” Nabungolo said.
He said the school also offers power mechanics, construction and business-related subjects as part of its skills-based education programme.
