CS Kipchumba Murkomen Orders Security Crackdown on Criminal Gangs in Kitale

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has directed security agencies in Trans Nzoia County to intensify a major crackdown on criminal gangs operating in Kitale town and its surrounding areas.

Speaking during the launch of the Cherang’any United Cup in Makutano, Murkomen said the government had noted a worrying rise in insecurity cases linked to organised gangs, assuring residents that firm action is underway to restore law and order.

“I have directed the County Commissioner to ensure the gangs in Matisi, Mitume and Tuwan are neutralised for the sake of security,” he said.

The Interior CS blamed the surge in gang activity on politicians whom he accused of recruiting youth to engage in hooliganism against their political opponents.

He also raised concern over the influx of illicit drugs through the Kenya–Uganda border, terming it a growing security threat in the region.

“There is also an infiltration of illicit drugs from the porous border with Uganda. We are setting up a special police unit to prevent the menace,” Murkomen added.

Murkomen urged Kenyans who have not obtained national identity cards to take advantage of ongoing mobile registration drives across the country.

He cautioned the public against paying any money for ID processing, emphasizing that the service is free.

The CS further called on leaders and citizens to promote cohesion and reject divisive politics.

“Let us not sow seeds of discord. We must reject leaders who are preaching divisive politics,” he said.

Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau, and Kenya Seed Company Director Bernard Wambwa called on leaders in the cosmopolitan county to prioritize peace and unity.

“Trans Nzoia is home to all tribes, and as leaders, we must embrace inclusivity in our leadership to benefit everyone,” said Mr. Bisau.
