Homa Bay Chaos Sparks Fresh Calls to Crack Down on Political Goons

Human rights activist Samuel Kiboi has called on the government and political leaders to take swift action against individuals accused of organising, financing or mobilising groups involved in political violence.

Kiboi, who is the director of the Centre for Transparency and Accountability (CETRA), made the remarks while reacting to the violence witnessed during political activities in Homa Bay, warning that political confrontations have consequences for entire communities.

“We are all affected by this. Your brother, your neighbour, your friend, if they get injured, you are the one who got injured,” Kiboi said.

He urged political leaders to condemn violence and stop facilitating groups allegedly used to disrupt political activities.

Kiboi called on security agencies to investigate claims that some political leaders finance or mobilise violent groups and ensure that anyone found culpable is arrested and prosecuted.

He also criticised what he described as an overreliance on public statements by institutions such as the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), saying Kenyans needed concrete action to deter political violence.

“We need action,” he said, urging the government to demonstrate that citizens are safe and that those responsible for political violence will face the law.

Kiboi appealed to President William Ruto and security agencies to act firmly against groups allegedly involved in political violence. He said political leaders suspected of organising or sponsoring such groups should also be held accountable.

He warned that the continued presence of politically linked gangs could undermine national security and stability if left unchecked.

The activist further called for religious leaders and communities to work together in promoting peace, saying churches and other community institutions could play a key role in preventing political violence.

Kiboi raises Trans Nzoia vehicle concerns

Kiboi also raised concerns over vehicles he alleged were stolen or damaged during political activities in Trans Nzoia County.

He challenged Governor George Natembeya to explain who authorised the use of the vehicles for political activities and who would bear the cost of repairing or replacing them.

Kiboi said he intended to pursue legal action over the alleged misuse of the vehicles, describing it as an abuse of office.

His remarks come amid growing concerns over political violence and allegations of organised groups being used to disrupt political activities.

The allegations against unnamed political leaders and other individuals have not been independently substantiated in Kiboi’s remarks, and those implicated would be entitled to respond.

Kiboi urged Kenyans to reject political violence and called on authorities to ensure that political disputes are resolved through lawful institutions rather than confrontation.
