President William Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet, has thrown his weight behind former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha’s candidate to challenge Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya in the 2027 General Election.
Kibet urged residents to support Nakhumicha’s bid during a women empowerment forum held at Holy Trinity Grounds in Saboti, signalling growing support for her campaign to unseat Natembeya.
He asked the gathering whether Nakhumicha was ready to lead and whether she should proceed with her gubernatorial bid, drawing an affirmative response from the crowd.
“Is she ready or not ready? Should she proceed? Is anyone opposing her? Should she continue?” Kibet asked.
National Assembly Speaker and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula said the party would rally behind Nakhumicha’s bid for the Trans Nzoia governorship.
“There are others we have interest in the seat, but we as Ford Kenya and by extension the broad-based government, our candidate is Nakhumicha,” Wetang’ula said.
Migori Woman Representative Fatuma Mohammed also endorsed Nakhumicha, citing her record in public service and leadership potential.
“We in broad-based see the potential in her and we believe she has all it takes to turn around this county when elected,” Mohammed said.
The forum was hosted by Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Lilian Siyoi, bringing together political leaders and residents in support of women empowerment.
Nakhumicha, who is Kenya’s permanent representative to the UN Habitat,is positioning herself for a return to elective politics after her tenure in the national government.
Her gubernatorial bid sets the stage for a major political contest in Trans Nzoia ahead of the 2027 elections.
