Nakhumicha: Trans Nzoia Needs New Leadership to Fix Roads, Jobs and Healthcare

Trans Nzoia gubernatorial aspirant Susan Nakhumicha has criticised the state of infrastructure and public services in parts of the county, accusing the current administration of failing to adequately address challenges in healthcare, water, roads and employment.

Nakhumicha said residents in some areas still struggle to access reliable healthcare and clean water, while poor roads continue to hamper movement and economic activities.

She also identified youth unemployment as a major challenge that the next county administration must address, saying Trans Nzoia needs more industries and investment to create jobs.

Speaking at Matumbei in Endebess during an empowerment event, Nakhumicha pledged to use her experience and networks at the national and international levels to attract development projects to the county.

“I have a network here at the grassroots, I have a network in the national government and now I am an ambassador with an international network. Therefore, I am coming to develop Trans Nzoia,” Nakhumicha said.

She said the county must also give agriculture greater attention by improving farmers’ access to inputs, while prioritising value addition and industrialisation to create employment opportunities for young people.

Nakhumicha also criticised Governor George Natembeya’s administration, alleging that it had failed to adequately respond to residents’ needs.

She cited alleged delays in the payment of workers’ salaries and questioned some county government decisions, including changes involving health facilities.

“People are looking for someone to come and fix things. This seat of governor is a seat that requires wisdom,” she said.

Nakhumicha, who is seeking to succeed Natembeya in the 2027 gubernatorial race, also made unity a central theme of her campaign, calling for leadership that brings together residents from different ethnic communities.

“Trans Nzoia is our home. We have people from different communities here. Therefore, we need peace and a leader who can bring all communities together,” she said.

She invoked motherhood to challenge tribal politics, arguing that leadership should serve residents equally regardless of their ethnic background.

“Does a mother’s womb ask about tribe? It carries everyone. Therefore, the governor’s office should also serve everyone,” Nakhumicha said.

Nakhumicha also linked her gubernatorial bid to President William Ruto’s administration, urging Trans Nzoia residents to support his re-election.

She argued that retaining Ruto in office would help preserve her networks within the national government and make it easier for her to lobby for development projects for the county.
