Natembeya Raises Concern Over Neglect of Boy Child, Calls for Balanced Support

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has called for urgent societal reflection on child upbringing, warning that the boy child is increasingly being neglected amid intensified efforts to empower the girl child.

Speaking during an Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Kitale School, Natembeya emphasized the need for parents, educators, and leaders to take collective responsibility in nurturing all children equally.

“We need to take good care of our children. There is a serious social challenge emerging where the girl child has been over-empowered to an extent that the boy child has been forgotten,” he said.

The governor cautioned that the imbalance in focus is beginning to affect “the level of thinking” among young boys, urging stakeholders to “refocus our energies on the boy child” to restore social balance and cohesion.

Scholarship Challenges Highlighted

Natembeya also raised concerns over persistent challenges in accessing scholarships, both at the national and county levels. He noted that many deserving students continue to miss out due to limited funding and inefficiencies in allocation systems.

“There is a need to streamline scholarship programs to ensure fairness and inclusivity, especially for vulnerable learners,” he added.

Road Safety During Easter

On public safety, the governor appealed to residents to exercise caution during the upcoming Easter festivities, locally known as Pasaka.

He warned of increased road accidents during the holiday period and urged motorists, pedestrians, and law enforcement agencies to prioritize safety.

“Let us all be vigilant on our roads during this period. We must protect lives as families travel and celebrate,” Natembeya said.

The remarks come at a time when conversations around gender equality and youth development continue to evolve, with leaders increasingly calling for inclusive approaches that address the needs of both boys and girls.
