Newly elected officials of the Boda Boda Association in Trans Nzoia County have set their sights on restoring sanity within the sector, which has been marred by disorder for 13 years.
The officials spoke after taking the oath of office, having emerged victorious in the Boda Boda Safety Association of Kenya (BAKE) Trans Nzoia Branch elections held on November 7.
“We want to streamline the way we do things, with a focus on discipline, road safety, and the socioeconomic welfare of our members,” said chairman Vincent Murunga Alikula.
The Secretary James Nyakangi said they are already putting in place measures to establish economic investment avenues for members.
“We are working on modalities to strengthen investment entities such as the Boda Boda Sacco and to empower our members with entrepreneurship skills,” Mr. Nyakangi said.
The Treasurer Joseph Mukurima promised to ensure prudent financial management of the group’s resources.
“I commit to always being transparent in the management of finances by ensuring funds are put to the right use,” said Mr. Mukurima.
The Trans Nzoia County Traffic Base Commander Edward Impwii challenged the new officials to ensure all of their members undergo driving school training to be conversant with traffic rules and urged them to desist from being used by politicians as goons.
“It is imperative that every rider undertakes a driving school course to become fully acquainted with traffic regulations. We shall also conduct periodic sensitisation to keep you informed,” said Mr. Impwii.
