Nyambura Urges Trans Nzoia Residents to Keep Politics Out of Family, Neighbourhood Relations

Trans Nzoia County Government Director of Special Programmes Lucy Nyambura has urged residents to separate political differences from their relationships with family members, friends and neighbours.

Nyambura spoke during the burial of Mrs Joyce Wangare Njiru, where she called on residents to continue supporting one another and maintaining peaceful relations within the community.

“Politics comes and goes. But our neighbours remain. So let us not fight because of politics or because of someone else. They come and go, but we are the ones who remain here with our families and our neighbours,” Nyambura said.

She said residents should support one another without expecting political benefits in return.

“Today I came here as Lucy to help my mother, and I helped her. I did not help them because they would help me in politics. I helped them because I know I have done my part. If I am able to help, I will help where I can,” she said.

Nyambura also encouraged members of the community to continue assisting one another, particularly where there are financial, health or education-related needs.

She cautioned residents against turning political disagreements into personal disputes, noting that people continue to interact with one another after political contests.

“Let us stop with bad politics and make good politics. Do not hurt someone because of someone’s wife, someone’s husband or someone’s child. When politics ends, you still have to go back to your family and live with your neighbours,” she said.

Nyambura also referred to the 2027 political contest and urged residents not to engage in disputes over political positions.

“If God has written it, it will be. If not, what will we do? God is sending us to the places we can go and blessing us with the things we can carry. So let us not fight because of politics or because of someone else,” she said.

She cited changes in Kenya’s political leadership over the years while arguing that political positions are temporary.

“How many presidents have we had? Five, right? Every day you go to your place, you go to your work and you continue with your life. So why should you fight me because somebody has told you that I am bad? When did I become bad, and how?” Nyambura asked.

Nyambura also spoke about employment and other forms of assistance, saying Governor George Natembeya’s administration had benefited members of the community. She urged residents to support initiatives intended to improve household livelihoods.

She thanked those who had supported the bereaved family during the burial and called for continued assistance after the ceremony.
