Siyoi’s Empowerment Drive in Kitale Town Boosts Small-Scale Traders and Local Businesses

Small-scale traders and local entrepreneurs in Kitale town received a significant boost today, thanks to a well-coordinated empowerment drive spearheaded by Trans-Nzoia County Women Representative, Lilian Siyoi.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to support grassroots businesses, stimulate economic growth, and improve livelihoods for women, youth, and micro-entrepreneurs in the region.

Speaking at Soko Mjinga Market, Lilian Siyoi reaffirmed her dedication to uplifting local entrepreneurs.

“My kitty is not huge, but the little allocated to me has been fully utilized to support small-scale traders through affirmative action,” she said.

The empowerment program targeted key players in the local economy, including mama mboga vendors, boda boda riders, jua kali artisans, youth groups, and women’s business collectives.

Beneficiaries received a variety of essential business support tools, including umbrellas, mikokoteni (carts), wheelbarrows, tents, and financial assistance—all aimed at enhancing business operations and increasing incomes for small-scale traders.

“My office is committed to ensuring that even modest resources can have a meaningful impact on empowering local businesses and fostering economic self-reliance,” she added.

During her tour of Kitale Town, the Women Representative also encouraged residents to embrace the two-term leadership vision of President William Samoei Ruto, highlighting themes of unity, empowerment, and economic transformation.

She urged the community to actively participate in initiatives that promote sustainable growth, job creation, and wealth generation at the grassroots level.

Traders praised the initiative as a concrete example of leadership that prioritizes empowering wananchi and strengthening the local economy.

“By equipping small-scale traders with essential tools and financial support, the program is expected to stimulate business activity, increase incomes, and contribute to broader economic development,” said Benson Simiyu, chairman of Bidii Market.
