Trans Nzoia Expands Dialysis Services with 20 New Machines from Germany

Patients in Trans Nzoia County and the surrounding region will soon access life-saving dialysis services closer to home following the arrival of modern kidney treatment equipment at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The hospital has received state-of-the-art dialysis machines from Germany and is putting the final touches on its new Renal Unit. Once operational, the unit will have 20 dialysis machines, up from the five previously available at the former Kitale County District Hospital.

According to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Jedida Wamalwa, many patients from Trans Nzoia have been forced to seek kidney treatment in neighbouring counties due to limited dialysis services.

“Many of our patients have been travelling to Eldoret Referral Hospital for dialysis services. However, I want to assure residents that once this new Renal Unit becomes operational in the coming days, it will serve a large number of patients,” Wamalwa said.

The development is expected to bring significant relief to kidney disease patients who have been travelling long distances to Eldoret for treatment, saving them time and transport costs while improving access to quality renal care.

The Renal Unit is expected to begin operations in the coming days, with residents advised to follow official communication channels for the confirmed launch date and service hours.

“This is one of the largest renal units in the region and will accommodate many kidney patients. We thank all residents who have continued to trust this facility and encourage those in need of dialysis services to seek treatment here,” Wamalwa said.

Hospital Administrator Rose Wangila also commended the Trans Nzoia County Government, through the Department of Health, for partnering with other governments to acquire the advanced dialysis machines from Germany.

“We appreciate the Governor and the County Department of Health for their commitment to improving healthcare services. These machines will greatly enhance treatment for patients suffering from kidney disease,” Wangila said.

She urged residents living with kidney disease to seek treatment at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital once the Renal Unit is officially launched.

“We have highly qualified doctors and healthcare professionals ready to provide specialised dialysis services. We encourage residents to seek treatment at this government facility instead of travelling outside the county for the same services,” Wangila added.
