Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has invited ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna to join his party, amid claims that leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement are facing hurdles in forming new political parties.
Wamalwa said Sifuna’s team had encountered what he described as frustrations in their efforts to establish or register new political parties after falling out with ODM.
“I welcome Sifuna to join the DAP-K party if he feels frustrated since we have a common agenda of forming a new government,” Wamalwa said on Saturday during the burial of Edward Musombi Munabi at Kapretwa in Saboti, Trans Nzoia County.
The remarks come as opposition leaders reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with political alliances and new formations taking shape.
Wamalwa also challenged Parliament to fast-track changes to electoral laws, arguing that reforms were necessary to strengthen the electoral process before the 2027 polls.
He further called on the Judiciary to expedite cases challenging electoral laws to provide clarity on the legal framework governing the elections.
“I call on Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Chief Justice Martha Koome to ensure the laws are fixed,” Wamalwa said.
Wetang’ula, who also attended the burial, responded with a political invitation of his own, urging Wamalwa to join forces with him.
“We walked with your brother Wamalwa Kijana. You are a very hardworking and brilliant gentleman. Join us,” Wetang’ula said.
The National Assembly Speaker also backed President William Ruto’s bid for another term, citing the administration’s development record and urging voters to support the President in 2027.
Former Kiminini MP Dr Chris Wamalwa, meanwhile, called for restraint among politicians and their supporters as the country heads towards another highly contested election.
“We all need Kenya to remain peaceful even as we hunt for votes since we have nowhere else to go,” Dr Wamalwa said.
UN-Habitat Permanent Representative Susan Nakhumicha echoed the call for peaceful campaigns, urging politicians to focus on issues rather than personal attacks.
She said political competition should be conducted responsibly as leaders seek support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
