Wamalwa: My Gubernatorial Bid Depends on Trans Nzoians, Not Political Bigwigs

Former Kiminini MP Dr. Chris Wamalwa has rejected political endorsements from influential leaders outside Trans Nzoia, saying voters should have the final say on who becomes governor in the 2027 General Election.

Wamalwa, who is seeking to become the next Trans Nzoia governor, said he would not rely on political heavyweights from neighbouring counties to endorse his bid, arguing that the mandate belongs to county residents.

“I will not bank on leaders from Uasin Gishu, Bungoma or West Pokot counties to endorse me since that mandate rests with the voters,” Wamalwa said.

He draw a contrast with former Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Susan Nakhumicha, who has received the backing of Ford Kenya party leader and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula in her bid for the Trans Nzoia governorship.

Wamalwa spoke at Kapretwa during the burial of Ford Kenya official Edward Munabi, an event attended by Wetang’ula.

The former Ford Kenya secretary-general, who has since joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), said political leaders should respect voters’ choice and allow them to determine the county’s leadership in 2027.

Wamalwa also positioned himself as a candidate capable of challenging Governor George Natembeya in the upcoming election.

He called on politicians and their supporters to maintain peace as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 polls.

“We have no other country other than Kenya. Our differences in political ideologies should not be a recipe for animosity,” he said.

Wamalwa also mourned Munabi, describing him as a close friend who remained committed to Ford Kenya for decades.
