All Set for KNUT Trans Nzoia Elections with 36 Candidates in the Race

Preparations are in top gear for the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Trans Nzoia Branch elections scheduled for February 7.

The county executive secretary, George Wanjala, and branch chairman, Wilberforce Wamalwa, are set to go unopposed after receiving no challengers for their respective positions.

Treasurer Phoebe Maneno, however, will defend her seat in the exercise, with about 3,500 teachers expected to take part in the voting.

According to the branch, nomination papers were received from 36 candidates across various seats.

Other positions up for contest include vice chairperson, assistant treasurer, women’s representative and grassroots representatives, popularly known as Branch Executive Committee (BEC) members.

Speaking ahead of the polls, KNUT Trans Nzoia Branch officials said the union has already concluded consultations with the police and labour officers, who will oversee the nomination and election processes to ensure a smooth and credible exercise.

“We have held meetings with the police and the labour officers who will run the voting exercise, and they are ready to lead both the nomination and election processes,” said Mr. Wanjala.

Union officials expressed confidence in the preparedness of the branch, noting that the elections will play a key role in revitalising KNUT activities in Trans Nzoia County.

“We are fully prepared and ready to revitalise the branch through this democratic process,” the official added.
