Lusaka reaffirms Ruto support, urges youth to take bigger role in politics

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has reaffirmed his support for President William Ruto, dismissing speculation that his recent interactions with political leaders from different camps signal a shift in his political allegiance.

Lusaka said remarks he made during the burial of Senator Consolata Wakwabubi’s mother, which was attended by Linda Mwananchi leaders and other political figures, should not be interpreted as a shift from his support for President Ruto.

“Yesterday I had visitors in Bungoma, and I welcomed them like my children. But that does not mean that our position has changed,” Lusaka said.

He spoke in Kitale during a Broad-Based Youth Caucus meeting attended by Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Lilian Siyoi, Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro.

Lusaka also called for greater involvement of young people in Kenya’s political and development agenda, saying the youth must move beyond being spectators and become active participants in decision-making.

The governor said young people form the majority of Kenya’s population and should therefore have a central role in shaping the country’s future.

“The bigger population of Kenya are youths. And therefore, we must incorporate them in everything that we are doing so that they are part and parcel of that thing going forward,” he said.

Lusaka said youth participation should extend beyond election campaigns and political rallies to include structures where key decisions affecting the country are made.

“We don’t want our youth to be spectators. Our youth should be part of the decision-making body,” he said.

He urged political leaders to deliberately create opportunities for young people to participate in political discussions and influence policies and programmes affecting their future.

Other leaders who addressed the meeting included Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Lilian Siyoi, Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau, Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, Endebess MP Robert Pukose and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro.

They drummed up support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid, saying he deserves another term based on his track record and the progress made under his administration.
