Trans Nzoia to Get First Public University, Sh1 Billion for Hospital Revamp

Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau has announced that the national government has allocated Sh1 billion to renovate the condemned Trans Nzoia County Hospital, which was shut down by Governor George Natembeya.

Speaking during a UDA forum in Waitaluk, Bisau said the rehabilitation of the key health facility will significantly improve healthcare services for residents across the county.

“The national government has set aside KSh1 billion to ensure the hospital is renovated and fully operational to serve our people,” he said.

The MP further revealed that Egerton University is set to establish a university college in Waitaluk, a move expected to pave the way for the county’s first public university.

“This is a historic step that will expand higher education opportunities for our youth. We are very optimistic,” Bisau noted.

However, the legislator accused Governor Natembeya of allegedly launching national government projects in Kiminini and presenting them as county initiatives, terming the move misleading to the public.

Bisau emphasized that Trans Nzoia remains a cosmopolitan county and called for urgent improvements in the healthcare sector, while also criticizing the governor for what he described as failure to implement critical development priorities.

On the contentious Kibabgenge land dispute, the MP vowed to defend landowners, insisting that public interest must prevail within the law.

“We will defend the landowners. In legal terms, the interest of the public good should prevail, but we cannot destroy the livelihoods of more than 20,000 households,” he said.

Meanwhile, Endebess MP Robert Pukose separately criticized Governor Natembeya over what he termed as unfulfilled pledges in his 10-point development agenda, escalating political pressure on the county leadership.
