Adventist Leaders Urge Kenyans to Reject Political Violence at Kitale Camp Meeting

Seventh-day Adventist leaders have urged Kenyans to reject political violence, intimidation and manipulation, calling for peaceful and lawful political competition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The call was made during the 2026 Seventh-day Adventist Amazing Discovery District Camp Meeting in Kitale, where visiting Tanzanian pastor Fadhil Samuel Lubua urged politicians and their supporters to avoid actions that could fuel conflict and undermine national peace.

Pastor Lubua said political positions should not become a source of hostility, urging Kenyans to place their trust in God rather than resorting to violence, intimidation or political retaliation.

“God is the one who gives positions, not human beings or politics,” Pastor Lubua said, while urging political actors to avoid creating problems for their opponents and to promote peace and responsible participation in political affairs.

He also encouraged Kenyans to follow biblical teachings during political contests and avoid revenge or deliberately making life difficult for their opponents.

The message came as thousands of Seventh-day Adventists, Christians from other denominations and visitors from Tanzania gathered for the week-long camp meeting held from August 9 to 16, 2026.

The camp was hosted by Pastor David Moyaka under the theme “Grounded in the Bible, Focused on the Mission.” The programme was anchored on 2 Timothy 3:16–17, while Psalm 27:2 was adopted as the camp song.

The annual gathering featured preaching, Bible study, prayer, music and baptism, with church leaders describing it as an opportunity for believers to strengthen their faith and renew their commitment to Christian service.

Young people were also challenged to resist political manipulation and channel their energy into activities that improve their lives and communities.

He warned young people against allowing politicians to exploit them during political confrontations, urging them to make decisions that safeguard their future.

The camp meeting also featured the Burka S.D.A. Choir from Tanzania as the guest choir, alongside the Amazing Discovery Church Choir, which performed under the stewardship of Kephas Ayiecha, chairman of the church choir.

Ayiecha urged young people to use their skills for productive activities, environmental conservation, peacebuilding and community development rather than becoming instruments of political violence.

“I urge the youth to use their skills to improve their lives, protect the environment, promote peace and contribute to the development of their communities,” Ayiecha said.

Elders Moses Mugesi and John Mwachi described the gathering as one of the largest camp meetings held by the church, attributing its success to cooperation between church members and local leaders.

Mwachi also encouraged the church to embrace technology and digital media platforms to expand the reach of the gospel and engage wider audiences.

The 2026 Amazing Discovery District Camp Meeting concluded with renewed calls for faith, peaceful coexistence, responsible citizenship and greater community involvement among believers.
