Murkomen: Strong Coordination Between Levels of Government Key to Trans Nzoia’s Development

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has advocated for strengthened coordination between the national government and the Trans Nzoia County Government, saying closer cooperation is key to accelerating development and improving service delivery.

Speaking during a church fundraiser held at Kitalale in Kinyoro Ward, Murkomen stressed that sustainable development can only be achieved through unity among leaders and a shift away from political divisions toward practical service delivery.

“Other counties have made tremendous strides in development because of cordial working relationships. This must also be the case in Trans Nzoia. The politics of theatrics must come to an end,” he said.

Murkomen outlined key government priorities for the region, including road construction, expansion of water projects, and the delivery of affordable housing. He reaffirmed that the national government remains committed to transforming the region through coordinated development programs.

He further warned against the exploitation of young people for political violence, urging leaders to act responsibly and focus on empowering the youth.

“Talking is not enough. We must stop recruiting young people into chaos. Instead, let us engage them in nation-building,” he added.

The CS also directed that public service delivery, particularly the issuance of national identification cards, be improved and freed from unnecessary bureaucratic delays.

Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat, Susan Nakhumicha, criticized the state of devolved services in Trans Nzoia, arguing that a change in leadership would be necessary to improve development outcomes.

“Trans Nzoia is lagging behind in development due to a lack of commitment by the current Governor. I will change this if elected Governor,” she stated.

Endebess Member of Parliament Robert Pukose emphasized that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) must be conducted before any land degazettement process proceeds, stressing the importance of environmental safeguards in land use decisions.

“We want misconduct involving the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) in Endebess brought to book,” Pukose said, adding that the matter would be followed up with the relevant authorities.

Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, Woman Representative Lilian Siyoi, and Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau said the county’s development agenda has been hijacked by selfish political interests.

The event brought together congregants and leaders for a joint fundraiser supporting Catholic, Deliverance, and Kenya Assemblies of God (KAG) churches in Kitalale.
