Kiminini MP Condemns Hooliganism Witnessed During Fuel Price Demonstrations

Kiminini Member of Parliament Kakai Bisau has condemned acts of violence and hooliganism witnessed during recent protests over the rising cost of fuel, urging young people not to allow themselves to be used to cause chaos and engage in criminal activities.

Bisau said Kenyans had a constitutional right to express themselves on matters that affect them, but warned against destructive behavior during demonstrations. Instead, he urged them to use legally accepted means.

“We do not want hooliganism. We want to tell our youth not to allow themselves to be misused,” said the MP while commissioning a six-classroom storey building funded by the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) at Big Tree Primary School.

Bisau said it was regrettable that some residents in Kiminini experienced unrest during the protests, with groups of youths allegedly blocking roads, stopping vehicles, and extorting money from passengers and motorists.

According to the legislator, such actions would not help address the economic challenges facing wananchi and would only create insecurity and fear among residents. He promised that legislators would craft better solutions to the challenge.

The MP defended President William Ruto over the recent increase in fuel prices, arguing that the crisis had largely been triggered by global factors beyond the government’s control. He cited tensions and conflict in major oil-producing regions, including the Middle East, as key contributors to the rising fuel costs affecting Kenya.

“William Ruto did not raise fuel prices. The increase has been caused by international issues, including conflict in oil-producing regions, which has affected supply,” Bisau stated.

He urged Kenyans to remain peaceful and allow leaders to engage the national government on possible interventions aimed at reducing the burden caused by high fuel prices and the increasing cost of essential commodities.

Bisau further revealed that security operations had been intensified in the area following consultations with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

He said the operations are targeting individuals involved in violence, destruction, and criminal activities during the protests.

The lawmaker maintained that law enforcement officers would take firm action against anyone found engaging in hooliganism, regardless of their political affiliation.

At the same time, the Kiminini MP called for increased investment in technology and digital learning to prepare students for the future economy.

Speaking during a computer handover event at Friends Kabuyefwe Girls, Bisau emphasized that the future of education and economic development lies in information, communication, and technology (ICT) integration.

He revealed that plans were underway to connect schools in Kiminini to fiber internet and provide computers to learners to enhance digital literacy and equip students with modern technological skills.

Bisau said expanding access to ICT in schools would help bridge the digital divide and create better opportunities for learners in the constituency.
