Women Leaders Rally Behind Nakhumicha’s Trans Nzoia Gubernatorial Bid

A growing number of women leaders in Trans Nzoia County have endorsed Dr. Susan Nakhumicha’s bid for governor in the 2027 General Election, hailing her as a transformative leader poised to usher the county into a new era of development, inclusivity, and progressive governance.

The endorsement took place during a strategic women’s leadership meeting held at Dr. Nakhumicha’s Chebarus residence, where representatives drawn from various formal and informal women groups across the county expressed unified support for her gubernatorial ambition.

The forum brought together influential grassroots mobilizers, political actors, and community-based women leaders, with discussions centered on strengthening women’s participation in leadership, expanding political influence, and building stronger support networks ahead of the 2027 polls.

Speaking during the gathering, Trans Nzoia Women Leaders Executive Director Immaculate Shamala described the meeting as a defining moment in the county’s evolving political landscape, signaling what she termed a “women-driven political awakening.”

“An earthquake is shaking Trans Nzoia’s political ground, and the women of Trans Nzoia are making one declaration: the time has come for women to lead the county,” said Shamala.

She emphasized that women across the county were increasingly recognizing their collective political strength and were ready to rally behind leaders who champion inclusivity, accountability, and sustainable development.

Dr. Susan Nakhumicha, who currently serves as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat, said her decision to seek the Trans Nzoia governorship is driven by a commitment to accelerate socio-economic transformation and expand opportunities for residents.

“I have had the privilege of serving Kenya at both national and international levels. The experience I have gained positions me to deliver effective leadership and champion sustainable development for the people of Trans Nzoia,” she said.

The former Cabinet Secretary further pledged to prioritize key development pillars including economic empowerment, improved public service delivery, youth and women empowerment, and infrastructure expansion if elected governor.

Her remarks were warmly received by women leaders present, who expressed confidence in her leadership track record and governance experience.

Maendeleo ya Wanawake member Naomi Okul urged women across Trans Nzoia County to take an active role in shaping political outcomes and supporting leaders who prioritize gender equality and development.

“This is our moment to shape the future of Trans Nzoia. Women must take their rightful place in leadership and decision-making processes. We have the numbers to make a statement at the ballot,” she said, calling for stronger mobilization toward achieving the two-thirds gender principle.

Nominated Ford Kenya MCA Margaret Wanjala echoed the sentiments, urging unity among women leaders ahead of the elections, noting that solidarity would be key in influencing the county’s political direction.

“When women unite around a common vision, they become a powerful force for change and development. We must stand together and support leaders who understand our aspirations,” Wanjala stated.

Eva Nyamwogo from the Trans Nzoia Women Leaders Organization added that Dr. Nakhumicha’s extensive public service experience had inspired confidence among residents seeking a more development-oriented leadership approach.

“Leadership is about vision, integrity, and results. Dr. Nakhumicha has demonstrated these qualities throughout her career, and we believe she can provide the leadership needed to move Trans Nzoia forward,” she said.
