Western Kenya Leaders Rally Behind Ruto’s 2027 Re-Election Bid, Link Support to 2032 Succession Strategy

Leaders allied to President William Ruto from Western Kenya have intensified their campaign urging residents in the region to back his re-election in the 2027 General Election, framing the move as a strategic pathway toward securing a future Western Kenya presidency in 2032.

The leaders, led by Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, argued that continued support for President Ruto would strengthen the region’s political influence and improve its chances of producing a presidential candidate in the next succession cycle.

Speaking during a fundraising event in Kiminini Township for the purchase of a vehicle to support transport for directors of a local cooperative, Lusaka dismissed opposition formations, insisting they lacked a clear development agenda for the region.

“We as a region have a huge chance of having one of our own become president with the backing of President William Ruto in 2032. This is our best bet as a region,” Lusaka said.

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula echoed similar sentiments, accusing critics of misleading the Luhya community by suggesting that President Ruto’s political influence would diminish after 2027.

He maintained that continued cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza administration would guarantee sustained development gains for Western Kenya.

“Those dreaming that President Ruto will lose the election are misleading the Luhya community and trying to divert it from the gains we are already seeing under his leadership,” Savula said.

Other leaders present at the event reinforced the pro-government messaging, emphasizing unity, development, and regional political strategy as key priorities.

Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, Hamisi MP Charles Gimose, and Teso South MP Mary Emase were among legislators who expressed support for closer alignment with the national government, alongside other representatives from Shinyalu and nominated Senate leadership.

Shinyalu MP Fredrick Lusuli Ikana also attended the gathering, reinforcing calls for regional cohesion and continued engagement with the national government.

Area MP Kakai Bisau who is eyeing governorship in 2027 pointed to ongoing and planned development projects in the region as evidence of tangible benefits arising from collaboration with the current administration.

“I am seeking promotion to governorship since I have delivered as an MP and I have all it takes to revolutionise this county in terms of development because we have remained behind development-wise,” he said.

The leaders collectively used the occasion to rally support for local development initiatives, framing their political alignment as part of a broader strategy aimed at securing resources, investment, and long-term political positioning for Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 and 2032 election cycles.
