Trans Nzoia County Assembly Approves Sh12.67 Billion 2026/27

The Trans Nzoia County Assembly approved the county government’s Sh12.67 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, paving the way for uninterrupted implementation of development and service delivery programmes after meeting the constitutional June 30 deadline.

The budget was passed late Tuesday following an extended sitting of the Assembly.

The approved revenue includes Sh8.24 billion from the equitable share, Sh1.22 billion in locally generated revenue, Sh1.25 billion in grants and transfers, and Sh1.95 billion in committed unspent balances carried forward from the previous financial year.

MCAs also approved Sh11.03 billion in expenditure, comprising Sh6.9 billion for recurrent spending and Sh4.13 billion for development. The budget further allocates Sh750 million for ward-specific projects and Sh1.25 billion for donor-funded programmes.

Under the approved estimates, the County Assembly will receive Sh782.7 million, while the County Executive has been allocated Sh10.25 billion to implement programmes aimed at improving public services and accelerating development across the county.

During debate, several MCAs raised concerns over what they described as unequal allocation of funds for ward office construction.

They noted that wards including Kimini, Sitatunga, Kinyoro, and Chepsiro/Kiptoror did not receive allocations and urged the county government to ensure a more equitable distribution of development resources in future budgets.

Presenting the Budget and Appropriations Committee report, Committee Chairperson Hon. Martin Simiyu Jamanoor assured members that all committed unspent balances captured in the budget would be honoured.

He said the funds relate to contractual obligations and ongoing development projects carried forward from the previous financial year and would be released to ensure continuity and timely completion of the projects.

The approval of the budget before the constitutional deadline allows the Trans Nzoia County Government to begin implementing its 2026/2027 financial plan without disruption.
