Kwanza parliamentary aspirant Eng. Peter Mukiri Kamau has launched his inaugural Football Tournament to nurture football talent among young people across the constituency.
The opening fixture saw Kwanza United defeat Mukuyuni FC 3-1 in an entertaining match that marked the start of the constituency-wide tournament held at Kwanza Girls School.
Speaking during the launch, Mukiri said the annual competition aims to identify and nurture football talent while providing opportunities for youth to develop their talents through sport.
“Every year, we will have the Engineers Super Cup so that we can nurture talented youth through football,” he said.
Mukiri said the tournament will provide a platform for talented youth to showcase their abilities while promoting discipline, teamwork and peaceful coexistence.
He said the initiative goes beyond football, describing it as an investment in the future of the constituency’s youth.
“Today, we have launched this tournament to empower the youth,” he said.
Mukiri briefly referenced his political ambitions but maintained that the day’s event focused on youth empowerment.
“In 2027, I will come as your Member of Parliament. Will you vote for me? But we will talk about that later. Today, our focus is empowering the youth,” he said.
He urged residents to embrace peace, saying conflict continues to rob families of their loved ones.
“Let’s stop the violence. Let’s live in peace. Our youth are losing their lives because of conflict,” he said.
Mukiri also challenged the youth to reject alcohol and substance abuse, saying addiction is destroying lives and limiting opportunities.
“Young people who are drinking alcohol need our support so that we can have a better future. If we continue abusing alcohol, our youth will die,” he said.
Sharing his personal journey, Mukiri said he grew up in a humble background and encouraged the youth to remain focused and work hard to achieve success.
“I come from a poor background, but I thank God. Youth can succeed. Nothing is impossible if you work hard,” he said.
He further urged the youth to make responsible decisions that would make their parents proud.
“Let’s give our parents peace of mind and ensure the next generation consists of responsible youth,” he said.
Mukiri pledged to champion initiatives that create employment opportunities and improve livelihoods if elected.
“If you give me a chance, we will ensure the youth get opportunities and jobs, and we will transform the lives of our people,” he said.
He also called for unity across Kwanza Constituency, urging residents to set aside their differences and work together for development.
“We should respect each other and love one another. We are all people of Kwanza, and together we can transform the lives of our people,” he said.
The tournament will continue over the coming weeks as teams compete for the inaugural title while promoting sportsmanship, youth empowerment and community cohesion.
