Kwanza parliamentary aspirant Moses Lupao has urged residents to prepare for the anticipated El Niño rains, warning that parts of Kwanza Constituency are prone to flooding.
Lupao called on residents, farmers and local leaders to take early precautions to minimise losses as the rainy season approaches.
Speaking during the burial of Mzee Eliud Manyonge at Maridadi village in Kwanza Sub-County, Lupao urged farmers to harvest mature crops before heavy rains potentially damage their produce.
“We have been told that El Niño is coming. You know that here in Kwanza is a place prone to floods,” he said.
Lupao also called on the county government and other relevant authorities to coordinate flood preparedness measures and protect residents living in vulnerable areas.
The Kwanza parliamentary aspirant also used the gathering to announce his plans to seek the constituency’s parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
“Next year, in 2027, you will have an election. I have come to give you notice and information that next year, I, as Lupao, will present myself to seek the position of Member of Parliament for Kwanza,” he said.
He said he would pursue his political ambitions with respect for Kwanza residents and remain focused on his goal as the 2027 election approaches.
“I will keep my eye on the ball while selling my agenda to the residents of Kwanza who deserve change,” Lupao said.
Lupao also condoled with the family of Mzee Manyonge, whom he described as an elder he knew well and whose family he had maintained a close friendship with.
