Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau has hit back at opposition leaders questioning President William Ruto’s development record in Trans Nzoia, pointing to ongoing road upgrades and the construction of the Kiminini Centre modern market as evidence of government projects in the county.
Bisau, who is eyeing the Trans Nzoia governorship, said residents could see the projects taking shape on the ground.
“Development is like a pregnancy with twins. You can’t hide it. Projects like this modern market are visible to anyone,” he said.
He spoke in Kiminini while hosting Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who was assessing progress on the Kiminini Centre Market project.
Bisau said contractors were already upgrading the Kiminini-Ndalu and Kiminini-Lukhome roads to bitumen standards, describing the projects as a major breakthrough for the constituency.
“Since Independence, Kiminini constituency has had no bitumen-standard road apart from the Kitale-Webuye highway, which was constructed by the colonialists. But under President William Ruto, we now have major roads being upgraded to bitumen standards,” he said.
The MP also pointed to the monthly stipend for village elders as another issue he said had been pushed from the grassroots to Parliament.
Bisau said he introduced a Bill seeking a monthly stipend for village elders after residents raised the issue during the 2022 election campaigns, adding that the initiative was later implemented by the Ruto administration.
“When we went to the elections, there were things that you, the electorate, said you wanted fixed,” he said.
He said the ongoing projects and policy changes showed that some of the issues raised by voters during the 2022 campaigns were now being addressed.
