Former Cherang’any Member of Parliament Wesley Korir has stepped in to support a local woman’s journey toward economic transformation by donating a dairy cow during a public forum in the constituency.
The donation was made during the Rais Mashinani forum held at Seum Primary School, where residents gathered to air their views and seek support for livelihood improvement.
The beneficiary, a local brewer, shared her struggles and expressed willingness to abandon illicit alcohol brewing if provided with a sustainable income-generating alternative.
“If I get a decent income-generating activity like dairy farming, I am ready to ditch alcohol brewing,” said the woman.
Moved by her determination, Korir—who also serves as chairman of the Trans Nzoia Dairy Farmers Cooperative—donated a cow, which was delivered to the venue on a lorry to mark the immediate start of her dairy venture.
“We will support you with training and equip your home with a dairy unit as you manage this cow until it becomes milk-productive,” said Korir.
In addition to the cow, the woman received 100 coffee seedlings to help her diversify into small-scale coffee farming.
Other leaders also stepped in with financial support. Allan Chesang contributed KSh 10,000, while Cherang’any MCA Edwin Koech also gave KSh 10,000 to boost her new venture.
In a separate act of empowerment, Korir donated KSh 70,000 to another local brewer who expressed interest in starting a grocery business, signaling a broader effort to help women transition into sustainable enterprises.
The former legislator pledged continued support for women in the region, emphasizing the need for structured engagement to nurture business ideas.
“Let us have an organised meeting with all these women to support them in coming up with ways to grow their business ideas,” Korir said.
The initiative highlights growing efforts by local leaders to address social challenges linked to poverty by promoting alternative livelihoods and empowering women economically.
