Kitale to Host Major Boda Boda Empowerment Fundraiser as Riders Seek Economic Boost

Thousands of boda boda operators across Trans Nzoia County are backing an empowerment fundraiser aimed at improving livelihoods and rejecting goonism.

The Boda Boda Safety Association of Kenya (BAKE) Trans Nzoia Branch is organising the drive to raise funds to improve riders’ welfare and strengthen the sector’s contribution to the local economy.

BAKE Trans Nzoia Branch Secretary James Nyakangi said the fundraiser will expand economic opportunities for riders while promoting peace and lawful conduct.

“Our industry supports millions of livelihoods, yet many riders still lack the financial support they need to grow. This fundraiser is an investment in the future of boda boda operators and their families. We also want to send a clear message that our members stand for peace, unity and lawful conduct, not goonism,” said Nyakangi.

Nyakangi said BAKE has about 2.5 million members nationwide, making it one of Kenya’s largest informal sector associations.

Branch Chairman Vincent Murunga said the initiative will improve the economic status and public image of boda boda operators.

“When riders are empowered economically, they become stronger contributors to development. We invite leaders, partners and well-wishers to support this initiative because it will create lasting benefits for our members and the communities they serve,” said Murunga.

Branch Treasurer Joseph Amudavi Mukirima said the funds will support programmes that improve riders’ financial stability while promoting discipline, professionalism and peaceful coexistence.

“The resources raised will support programmes that improve the financial stability of boda boda operators while encouraging discipline, professionalism and peaceful coexistence,” said Mukirima.

Organisers said the fundraiser will also highlight the boda boda sector’s role in creating jobs, supporting businesses and driving economic growth while reinforcing BAKE’s stand against violence and criminal activities.

Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang will host the fundraiser at the ASK Showground in Kitale on July 18. Several Kenya Kwanza leaders are expected to attend.
