The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into allegations of police brutality and other abuses reported during the Ol Kalou by-election.
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen urged victims and witnesses to record statements to aid the probe and ensure those found culpable face the law.
“I want to announce to the nation that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has already opened an investigation file to establish who these people were, what offences they committed, who they harmed and why they were there, so that appropriate legal action can be taken,” Murkomen said.
He made the remarks during an interdenominational church fundraiser held at Kwanza Girls High School in Trans Nzoia County.
The Cabinet Secretary said the DCI would conduct investigations before forwarding the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further action.
“Once the investigations are completed, the file will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions, and those found responsible will face legal action,” he added.
Murkomen urged witnesses and victims to formally report to the DCI instead of relying solely on public allegations, saying statements from affected persons would strengthen the investigations.
“Anyone with information should go to the nearest DCI office and provide that information. Anyone who was harmed should also record a statement with the DCI. If anyone committed an offence, whether they are police officers or ordinary citizens, they should be dealt with according to the law,” he said.
Responding to allegations that dozens of women were sexually assaulted during the by-election, the Cabinet Secretary said the claims must be investigated through established legal channels.
“There were claims that 68 women were raped. Let those affected report to the DCI so their statements can be recorded. If there are criminals, they will face the law,” he said.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Dr. Korir Sing’oei challenged the church to continue playing its moral role in society while encouraging congregants to support President William Ruto’s administration.
“The church should continue playing its role in shaping the moral fabric of society. Let us support President William Ruto as he delivers on his development agenda,” Sing’oei said.
Endebess MP Dr. Robert Pukose declared that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) would field candidates for every elective seat in Trans Nzoia County in the 2027 General Election.
“In 2022, UDA did not field candidates for the Kwanza parliamentary seat or the Trans Nzoia governorship. In 2027, UDA will field candidates for all elective positions in Trans Nzoia. There will be no zoning,” said Pukose.
Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang condemned politicians who exploit young people to engage in violence and other unlawful activities, urging leaders to promote peaceful political engagement.
“We must stop using our youth for the wrong reasons. Leaders have a responsibility to guide young people towards productive and peaceful activities,” Chesang said.
Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau claimed that Trans Nzoia County had been politically influenced to develop resistance against President William Ruto’s administration, arguing that the region should embrace the national government to accelerate development.
