Officials and members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Trans Nzoia County have declared their support for the party’s leadership and ongoing reorganization efforts as preparations begin for the 2027 General Election.
The leaders, allied to ODM party leader Raila Odinga, made the declaration during a meeting in the county where they pledged to strengthen party unity and mobilize grassroots support.
Speaking during the gathering, ODM Youth Leader Michael Ochola urged members to rally behind the party’s current direction and respect decisions made by its leadership organs.
Ochola maintained that the proposed leadership adjustments are aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.
“We support the changes to the party leadership, including the selection of Catherine Omanyo as Secretary-General. Those who are dissatisfied with the direction the party is taking are free to leave,” Ochola said.
The officials expressed strong backing for the proposed appointment of Catherine Omanyo to replace Edwin Sifuna as the party’s Secretary-General, saying the move would enhance regional representation and strengthen party structures.
Members present at the meeting emphasized the importance of unity within ODM, describing the party as a political family committed to consolidating its influence ahead of the 2027 polls.
“We, as members of the party from the western region, are glad that the Secretary-General position remains represented in the region,” said Francis Buluma, an ODM member.
Party officials also voiced confidence in Omanyo’s leadership credentials, expressing optimism that she would effectively steer the party’s secretariat and coordinate its activities nationwide.
Davies Odipo echoed the sentiments, reaffirming that ODM supporters in the region remain firmly behind the party’s leadership and its strategic plans.
In addition, the leaders welcomed ODM’s proposed political collaboration with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under a broad-based political arrangement aimed at fostering national unity and development.
The proposed leadership changes are expected to be formally ratified during the party’s upcoming National Delegates Conference (NDC) scheduled for the 27th.
