Protect the Girl Child: Siyoi Urges Parents to Guard Against Early Pregnancy and Exploitation

Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Lilian Siyoi has urged parents, guardians, and the community to take decisive action in safeguarding teenage girls by ensuring they attend school in a safe and supportive environment.

Speaking during the distribution of sanitary pads to girls in primary and secondary schools, Siyoi stressed that providing young girls with essential necessities is a vital step in promoting dignity, decency, and uninterrupted education.

“We have a duty as parents and guardians to ensure that the girl child is not exposed to environments that put them at risk of exploitation by men who take advantage of them and ruin their lives,” Mrs. Siyoi said at Chebarus.

The legislator called on parents to ensure their daughters are safeguarded from early pregnancies and other risks that can hinder their academic progress. She stressed that protecting the girl child is not only a family responsibility but also a community and national concern.

She expressed deep concern over reports that some students have yet to report for Grade 10, describing the situation as unfortunate and worrying. She pledged to engage the relevant authorities to ensure that all students return to school promptly and receive the support they need to continue their studies.”

Siyoi also highlighted national government initiatives, including the Affordable Housing Project, emphasizing that such programs are aimed at improving living conditions and providing tangible benefits to residents across the county.

“While the Affordable Housing Project offers affordable rental homes to Kenyans, it also provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to generate income by acquiring units at favorable prices,” she advised the residents.

The distribution of sanitary pads forms part of a broader initiative to ensure that girls stay in school and have access to the necessary resources to succeed academically, all while maintaining their personal hygiene and dignity
