Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has accused the government of allegedly deploying hired goons to intimidate leaders who express dissenting views, warning that the practice could threaten the country’s stability.
The legislator questioned why the government would allegedly resort to intimidation instead of addressing the issues raised by critics.
“Why is the government using goons to silence those with divergent opinions?” Amisi posed while speaking at Kapretwa.
He warned that the continued use of such tactics could have far-reaching consequences for the country.
“Those goons will eventually turn against the government, and we will not have a country to talk about. When they remain idle, they will vent their violence,” he cautioned.
The Saboti MP further claimed that the growing climate of intimidation is one of the reasons he and several like-minded leaders will boycott the upcoming National Delegates Conference (NDC) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
According to Amisi, there are fears that dissenting voices could face attacks during the meeting.
“The reason why we will not attend the ODM NDC is because they are going to use youths to harm us for having dissenting views,” he alleged.
On internal party affairs, Amisi insisted that any legitimate ODM National Delegates Conference must be officially convened by the party’s Secretary-General, Edwin Sifuna.
“If the NDC is not convened by Sifuna as the Secretary-General, then any other meeting will not have the proper authority,” he stated.
The MP also used the forum to dismiss those planning to challenge him for the Saboti parliamentary seat in the 2027 general election.
Amisi said his political success is based on performance rather than tribal politics or party affiliation.
“My track record speaks for itself. I was not elected because of my party or my tribe, but because of my performance. Those trying to use the tribal card against me have already lost,” he said.
The legislator further told his critics to focus on other opportunities, insisting he remains firmly in control of the Saboti seat and hinting at vying for the presidency in 2032.
