Wambwa Calls for Transparent Grassroots Elections to Strengthen UDA’s Influence in Trans Nzoia

Kenya Seed Company Director Bernard Wambwa, who is vying for the county chairmanship of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in Trans Nzoia, has called for a transparent and inclusive grassroots electoral process as a key step toward rejuvenating the party’s influence in the region.

Wambwa, who is also a Saboti parliamentary hopeful, pointed out that the party’s popularity has significantly dipped in recent times, primarily due to a lack of vibrancy and effective grassroots engagement.

He emphasized that the outcome of the grassroots elections would play a pivotal role in determining the party’s strength as it prepares for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

“The party urgently needs a visionary and committed team to spearhead its activities in the lead-up to the next general elections. This will be essential to securing the majority of elective seats across this county,” he said.

The former Tuwan Ward MCA also called on some leaders within the party in the county, particularly those who feel entitled to specific positions, to respect the democratic process and patiently await the results of the elections.

He criticized some of their premature statements as divisive and counterproductive, cautioning that such actions could create division within the party.

He emphasized that the upcoming election is a critical make-or-break moment for UDA in Trans Nzoia.

“If I am elected chairman, I will work closely with the new team in office to strengthen the party’s reach at the grassroots level. Together, we will focus on expanding the party’s base and advancing the agenda of our party leader, President William Ruto, who is seeking re-election,” Mr. Wambwa said.

Mr. Wambwa’s bid for the chairmanship will face competition from Endebess MP Robert Pukose and area Senator Allan Chesang.

The grassroots election has drawn numerous candidates competing for a range of positions, from the ward to the county level, indicating a fierce contest for party leadership in the vibrant, cosmopolitan county.
