Western Leaders Entrust MP Bisau with Unity Drive at Luhya–Teso Consultative Meeting in Kitale

Leaders from the Luhya and Teso communities in the western region have renewed calls for unity and political cooperation to spur development across the region during a consultative meeting held in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.

The meeting, convened under the Trans Nzoia chapter, brought together leaders from the five counties of Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Vihiga, Busia and Kakamega to deliberate on regional cohesion, peace and a common political direction.

Kiminini Member of Parliament Kakai Bisau, who hosted the forum, said the discussions focused on strengthening unity among communities in the five counties to create a peaceful and conducive environment for development.

“We are discussing unity because unity is the foundation of development. When our communities work together, it becomes easier to attract government projects and investments,” said Bisau.

During the meeting, leaders unanimously entrusted MP Bisau with the responsibility of spearheading the unification of all communities in Trans Nzoia County to promote peace, harmony and peaceful coexistence.

As part of the mandate, the legislator was tasked with convening a mega grassroots consultative meeting expected to bring together more than 5,000 leaders across the county. The forum will publicly declare unity and chart a common political direction for the region.

The planned meeting is expected to attract senior national and regional leaders, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, among others.

Luanda MP Dick Maungu and Teso South MP Mary Emase, who also serves as the Western Parliamentary Group vice chairperson, emphasized the need for leaders to listen to wananchi and work together to address the challenges facing the region.

“Unity is strength. We have listened to the issues affecting our people, and as leaders we must work together and with the national government to deliver development,” said Emase, adding that cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration was critical for the growth of the western region.

Sirisia MP and Western Parliamentary Group chairman John Waluke thanked leaders and residents for attending the meeting, noting that more consultative forums would be held to strengthen unity and consensus.

“We must respect the presidency and work with the government of the day for the benefit of our people. These consultations will continue until our region speaks with one voice,” said Waluke.

The meeting further resolved that MP Bisau will lead a Luhya community delegation to State House to formally declare support for the TUTAM Movement and to endorse his bid for the Trans Nzoia governorship.

Leaders at the forum noted that unity and peaceful political engagement remain key pillars for sustainable development and enhanced representation of the western region at the national level.
