National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has thrown his weight behind Ambassador Susan Nakhumicha in her bid for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat, urging her to intensify grassroots mobilization and consolidate support across communities.
Speaking during a fundraising event at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Chebarus, Wetang’ula advocated for the election of a new governor ahead of the next general election.
“We will walk with you since you are up to the task. Just solidify your support from all the communities in Trans Nzoia,” said the Ford Kenya party leader.
At the same event, the Speaker cautioned residents against aligning with opposition politics, instead urging them to support the re-election of President William Ruto.
He emphasized the need for political unity in the region to enhance development prospects.
President Ruto’s aide, Farouk Kibet, praised Nakhumicha’s leadership qualities, expressing confidence in her ability to steer the county’s development agenda if elected governor.
“This county needs a unifying leader, not one who has spearheaded division. This county needs change,” noted Mr. Kibet.
Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka also pledged support, noting that leaders from the region would work closely with their counterparts in Trans Nzoia to deliver a strong voting bloc for President Ruto in the upcoming elections.
“Trans Nzoia and Bungoma share similarities owing to their geographical proximity and historical ties. We should walk together politically,” he said.
Nakhumicha highlighted her track record during her tenure as Health Cabinet Secretary, pointing to key development initiatives she spearheaded as a foundation for her gubernatorial ambitions.
“I promise to transform this county, which has lagged behind in matters of health, road networks, and water connectivity, among others,” she said.
