Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has challenged United Democratic Alliance (UDA) gubernatorial aspirants in Trans Nzoia who have accused him of favouring Dr. Susan Nakhumicha’s candidature, urging them to join Ford Kenya and face her in the party’s nomination process instead of criticising his endorsement.
Wetang’ula was responding to criticism from UDA’s Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau and former Kiminini MP Dr. Chris Wamalwa, who took issue with his recent endorsement of Dr. Nakhumicha, saying he was favouring her over other Kenya Kwanza Alliance gubernatorial aspirants in the race for the Trans Nzoia governorship.
“I have not favoured Dr. Nakhumicha. She is simply the only person who has declared interest in vying for the Trans Nzoia governorship on a Ford Kenya ticket. I invite you to join the party and face her in the nominations. I will support whoever emerges victorious,” Wetang’ula said in response to Bisau’s call for fairness.
Wetang’ula, who is also the Speaker of the National Assembly, spoke in Kitale while accompanying a section of MPs at a thanksgiving Mass held for Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, who recently returned home after reaching a significant milestone in his medical recovery journey.
Mr. Bisau said the process of selecting the Kenya Kwanza candidate to challenge incumbent Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya should be carefully planned and strategically managed to ensure the coalition fields a strong and competitive contender.
“We are heading into a real political battle, and all I ask of you, Mr. Speaker, as one of the principals in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, is to accord everyone who has declared interest in the Trans Nzoia governorship a level playing field,” the MP said.
Endebess MP Dr. Robert Pukose said the Kenya Kwanza Alliance is determined to mount a strong and spirited campaign in the next general election to ensure its gubernatorial candidate defeats Governor George Natembeya in the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race.
Meanwhile, the leaders, who included MPs Patrick Simiyu (Cherang’any), Martin Pepela (Webuye East), John Makali (Kanduyi), and former minister Dr. Noah Wekesa, expressed gratitude to God for MP Wanyonyi’s recovery journey and return to public life.
The event was preceded by a thanksgiving Mass led by Liyavo Parish. The MP’s family, led by his wife Margaret Wanyonyi and their children, thanked the community for their prayers and support as the legislator continues to recover.
