Likuyani MP Mugabe Defends Track Record, Pledges Enhanced Education and Infrastructure

The MP for Likuyani, Innocent Mugabe, has defended his track record in education, highlighting significant improvements in the constituency through infrastructural development and bursary support for needy students.

Speaking at Friends School Likuyani while issuing bursary cheques, Mugabe defended increased investment in education, describing it as the most reliable pathway out of poverty. He called on parents and communities to support learners in completing their studies.

“This year, we have invested Ksh 65 million in our bursaries program, benefiting 9,468 students in universities, colleges, secondary, and special schools.,” Mugabe said.

Reflecting on his own experiences in under-resourced schools, the legislator recounted challenges such as lack of water and electricity, emphasizing that such obstacles should not deter learners from pursuing academic excellence.

He commnded teachers and parents for their dedication, noting that their efforts have helped schools in Likuyani achieve commendable rankings within Kakamega County, despite the constituency not hosting any national schools.

Mugabe also outlined plans to strengthen school infrastructure, including providing computers, addressing land shortages, and ensuring reliable access to water. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting students financially—from high school through university or vocational colleges—underscoring that bursary programs are vital for families facing financial hardship.

He called for collective action, urging parents, teachers, administrators, and local leaders to work together to improve school facilities and outcomes.

“We want our schools to be number one in Kakamega, and even in the Western region. This requires concerted efforts by all stakeholders to ensure we give our learners a conducive environment for learning,” he said.

The bursary distribution at Friends School Likuyani underscores ongoing efforts by constituency leadership to support education, relieve financial burdens on families, and ensure that no child is left behind.

Mugabe also highlighted the benefits of working closely with President William Ruto, noting that several infrastructural development projects—including road construction—have been earmarked for Likuyani, further enhancing the constituency’s educational and economic prospects.

“While others are seeking fame in attacking the President, I have a cordial relationship with him anchored on fixing the challenges facing my constituents. That’s what leadership is,” said the MP.
