Trans Nzoia gubernatorial aspirant Dr. Susan Nakhumicha hosted elders representing diverse communities across the county as she sought their support and blessings in her bid to become the next Governor of Trans Nzoia.
The elders gathered at Dr. Nakhumicha’s Chebarus home for a consultative meeting that brought together community leaders from various ethnic groups. The forum was also attended by Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula and other senior party officials.
Speaking during the meeting, Rev. Ferdinand Wanyisia of the Bukusu community urged residents to abandon outdated beliefs that limit women from occupying top leadership positions.
“We are living in a new era where women have proven they can effectively lead. We have seen women governors deliver results in other counties, and there is no reason why Trans Nzoia should be different,” said Rev. Wanyisia.
The elders called on Dr. Nakhumicha, who serves as a UN-Habitat Ambassador, to champion inclusive leadership and ensure all communities in Trans Nzoia are represented in her administration if elected governor.
“We want to see an inclusive government where every community, including minority groups, has an opportunity to participate in leadership and decision-making,” said Geoffrey Ndiema from the Sabaot community.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Nakhumicha pledged to leverage her extensive professional networks and leadership experience to accelerate socio-economic development in Trans Nzoia, noting that the county has immense untapped potential.
She identified healthcare, infrastructure and agriculture as key priority areas for her administration.
“I will work to improve healthcare services, upgrade our road network and enhance agricultural productivity to create wealth and opportunities for our people,” she said.
National Assembly Speaker and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula reaffirmed the party’s commitment to supporting Dr. Nakhumicha’s gubernatorial bid, describing her as the party’s preferred candidate for the seat.
“We encourage you to continue strengthening your support base across the county. Leadership is about service delivery and bringing people together,” said Wetang’ula.
Ford Kenya Secretary General John Chikati and Webuye East MP Martin Pepela challenged leaders seeking the gubernatorial seat through the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to support Dr. Nakhumicha’s candidature in the interest of regional unity.
Bungoma Senator David Wakoli said Ford Kenya is determined to reclaim the Trans Nzoia governorship, expressing confidence that Dr. Nakhumicha has what it takes to lead the county.
