People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM) party leader Caleb Amisi has accused a section of Western Kenya leaders of misleading Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and attempting to take control of the Linda Mwananchi movement after it gained national traction.
Amisi, the Saboti MP, claimed he was among the young politicians who helped establish the movement and position Sifuna at its centre, alongside Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
His remarks come amid emerging divisions over Linda Mwananchi’s political direction and the party expected to carry Sifuna’s 2027 presidential bid.
Reports have pointed to competing proposals, with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya backing the Ukombozi People’s Party, while Babu Owino has pushed the Mwananchi Party.
Speaking during a tour of Kitale town, Amisi questioned the role of some senior Western Kenya politicians in the movement.
“We formed Linda Mwananchi and said this was a movement of young people. Where were Natembeya, Wamboka, Osotsi and even Orengo?” Amisi asked.
He accused the leaders of joining the movement after it had already gained momentum and subsequently attempting to dictate its political direction.
Amisi also defended Babu Owino, arguing that the Embakasi East MP had played a critical role in mobilising support for Sifuna and should not be pushed aside.
“What has Babu Owino done wrong? He does not want to be president and he does not even want to be governor of Nairobi. He is helping Sifuna become president,” he said.
Amisi questioned whether Sifuna could build a national campaign if politicians who helped establish Linda Mwananchi were sidelined.
He also challenged attempts to keep Sifuna’s political activities concentrated in Western Kenya, arguing that the senator’s presidential ambitions required a national reach.
“Why are you taking him back to Kanduyi? Why are you taking him back to Bungoma? We have put the young man up there and the whole of Kenya has accepted him,” Amisi said.
The Saboti MP cited his own political engagements outside Western Kenya as an example of the need for a political organisation capable of operating beyond the region.
“Sifuna cannot be president of Kenya by touring Trans Nzoia and Bungoma. Kenya is big. To be President of Kenya, you must tour the whole of Kenya,” he said.
Amisi presented PRM as an alternative political vehicle, saying the party already had a national presence and could carry forward what he described as the original agenda of Linda Mwananchi.
“The big party here in Trans Nzoia, which even the people of the Coast recognise, is called PM,” he said.
He said PRM would continue with the movement’s agenda even if Linda Mwananchi eventually fractured.
“We are telling you that even if you break Linda Mwananchi, PM will fulfil those words,” Amisi said.
