Kiminini Member of Parliament Kakai Bisau has dismissed claims that his bid for the Trans Nzoia governorship amounts to a betrayal of Governor George Natembeya, saying his political ambitions long predate the incumbent’s tenure.
Bisau said his journey towards seeking the county’s top seat began in 2013 and that he only sacrificed his ambition in 2022 to support Natembeya’s governorship bid.
He said it was therefore unfair for critics to portray his current bid as an act of betrayal while disregarding the political sacrifice he made during the 2022 General Election.
“This narrative that my quest for governorship is betrayal to the current Governor yet my sacrifice in 2022 is disregarded,” Bisau said.
The Kiminini legislator spoke at Hututu village in Cherang’any Constituency during the burial of Mama Sara Naliaka.
Bisau said his decision to pursue the governorship should be viewed as a long-standing political ambition rather than a move driven by personal differences with Natembeya.
He also defended his decision to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid, saying his position was informed by the President’s track record and the need for leaders to focus on delivering solutions to Kenyans.
Bisau said he had nothing personal against Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions but questioned the relevance of calls for a one-term presidency.
“I have nothing personal against the presidential bid of Senator Sifuna, but chanting one term is not what Kenyans need but real solutions,” he said.
His remarks come amid growing political alignments in Trans Nzoia ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the race for the governorship expected to attract prominent political figures.
Bisau said he was determined to secure the Trans Nzoia governorship in 2027, arguing that he is better placed to address the socio-economic challenges facing residents and steer the county towards greater development.
